STUDIO HUMBABA takes its name from The Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest recorded story in human history. In the myth, Humbaba is the guardian of the cedar forest, slain by Gilgamesh to make way for deforestation. We see Humbaba as the first environmental activist, and Gilgamesh as the first extractive oligarch. Our name makes clear where our loyalties lie.
Studio Humbaba was founded on the belief that filmmaking has a duty to make a positive impact. We tell stories that honor humanity, celebrate cultural diversity, and explore our deep connection to the natural world. Our focus is on projects that amplify voices from West Asia, always advocating for empathy, thoughtfulness, and tolerance through storytelling.
